Volunteers Needed for New Personnel Taskforce/Committee!

The Board of Trustees welcomes 3-4 volunteers to join a newly-formed Personnel Taskforce. After the completion of two time-critical tasks, the Taskforce will transition to a standing Personnel Committee. The Personnel Taskforce will review and update existing job descriptions so that they match the actual job responsibilities of church staff. The Personnel Taskforce will also update the Staff Handbook. We hope to complete both tasks this fall. At that point, the Taskforce will transition to a standing Personnel Committee, which will meet every other month to engage with and advise on HR matters. Taskforce members are encouraged but not expected to join the Committee.Keeping HR documents updated and relevant is good practice at any organization—and helps us ensure that staff thrive at Frist Church! In addition, the inclusion of updated materials in the Search Package will be critical for attracting great candidates for the Senior Minister position.  If you are experienced and/or interested in HR matters, care about our staff, and are available in September and October, this is your opportunity to make an important contribution to First Church! Please contact Melanie Steiner-Sherwood at  if you’d like to sign up or have additional questions.

Social Justice Team

The First Unitarian Church social justice team is looking to organize a group of members who are interested in supporting women’s reproductive rights in Utah in light of the recent supreme court decision regarding abortion access. The full scope of this work is yet to be determined but could include such efforts as supporting women traveling to other states for abortions as well as political advocacy and coordinating with other agencies such as Planned Parenthood. If you are interested in being involved please email Lisa Hyte and Phil Bossart at:

Social Justice Volunteers wanted. For the past 7 yrs, First UU mbrs, Bernie & Marita Hart have prepared breakfast 4 times a wk for the homeless. What is so unique about the program is that after enjoying breakfast, they gather to do TaiChi. Why TaiChi? TaiChi is known as meditation in motion & offers therapy & healing for PTSD, TBIs, anxiety & depression-issues the homeless face daily. Because this project aligns so well w/ 1st UU values, we now have an opportunity to help. Contact Lisa H for info at
