Join Derek Gersdorf for a thought-provoking 6-week Adult Religious Education class exploring the intersection of film and spirituality through the works of four master filmmakers: Andrei Tarkovsky, Ingmar Bergman, Carl Theodor Dreyer, and Alain Resnais. Each session will feature selected film clips, guided discussions, and reflections on themes of spirituality, faith, doubt, transcendence, the sacred in cinema.
Whether you're a film lover, a seeker, or simply curious about how visual storytelling can deepen spiritual exploration, this class offers a unique opportunity for meaningful conversation and insight. Even if you think/feel you do not have a spiritual bone in your body, this class is for you.
Who Should Join?: Open to all—no prior film knowledge required! The class is capped at 15. Please watch the film each week before attending our discussion (Derek will provide watching opportunities outside of class as time allows). No reading required (but, of course, Derek will have reading recommendations for each film).
